Using social media sites for marketing campaign has been a very effective marketing strategies used by internet marketers. Aside from Facebook, Twitter is the next big social networking site. In Facebook, we have this so-called friends or fans. In Twitter, we call them followers. While there are some paid tools you can leverage to gain lots of followers; there are also ways to get you a bunch of free followers without having to pay anything.

While we may not be as famous like President Barack Obama, Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey, and other Hollywood celebrities and get overflowing followers in a minute, we still can get bunch of hundred followers in 5 minutes or so.

Getting free followers

Here are the things I have learnt to get hundreds of free followers in short period of time.

The first thing to get free followers in Twitter is by posting interesting tweets. The tweets should be relevant, informative and useful to your followers.

Secondly, edit your profile and bio in Twitter. Having these field filled will increase your credibility and make an impression to your free followers that you are not just a dummy account for spamming purposes. Your Twitter is a real deal, and that you are serious in making real connections with your free followers. I have read somewhere that having a bio can get you more followers than those who don’t have.

Thirdly, use personal image rather than the default image. Just like in Facebook, in Twitter, your free followers must know who we are and our brand. You can put your real photo as the owner of the business, or the logo of the business.

Fourth, look for other popular Twitter profiles whose subject or topic is related to mine and follow them. Then as you interact with them, retweet or reply to their tweets. There is greater chance that these other Twitter profiles will introduce you to their tons of followers, and possibly get some free followers then.

Fifth, connect your Twitter account to Facebook. This way, our Facebook friends and fans, who also happen to have Twitter accounts will follow us there. And if you build a great relationship with them and provide value, they would suggest their Twitter followers to follow us as well. This technique can really give good results in finding free followers.

Guideline when looking for free followers

There are some people who automatically follow people who follow them. That is why there are some who just focus on following here are there. However, we must be aware that Twitter might consider us as a bot or spam. That is why we must slow down  a bit and just really follow the ones which we think we can make great connection with. We do not want a Twitter timeline full of tweets irrelevant from us.
